Doing the most good for the most people during active shooter or Boston Marathon bombing type of incidents requires different techniques and mindset than normal first aid or even CERT disaster techniques. This class will focus on the skills and procedures that are required in these unique situations. It will cover the use of commercial and improvised tourniquets when required for multiple patients in a hostile environment and the use of occlusive dressings for chest and neck injuries. Also covered will be a variety of techniques to improve your ability to stabilize common bone and joint injuries. This section will start where we left off in Med II and concentrate on what is required to immobilize injuries during splinting and then to apply a splint that will both improve patient comfort and minimizes further injuries.
