Patuxent River District Boy Scouts are requesting CERT support to conduct a Saturday 23 March Search and Rescue Training activity.  Scouts aged 10-17 will go through a Round Robin of five training stages in first aid, SAR (Search and Rescue) related skills, meeting and learning about first responders in the morning.  In the afternoon, six scout SAR teams, guided by CERT volunteers, will conduct area searches, find actor/victims and evacuate actor/victims to the casualty collection point. Two CERTs will accompany each team on the search and rescue mission in the afternoon.

The Boy Scout leaders hope to train 40-60 youth in SAR related skills but need your assistance.  This is the perfect opportunity for the CERTs that have taken the Search and Rescue for Community Disasters and the Wide Area Search class(es). This will also be an opportunity for CERTs to teach the scouts how to check-in and how to demobilize by checking-out.  Any new instructors can use this as a chance to speak in front of a(n non-judgmental) audience and speak on first aid, SAR, the Incident Command System or first responder capabilities.

It is preferred that teams of two CERTs participate, although individual CERTs are able to assist for this event.  A total of ten (10) teams are needed to support this training.  The hours of operation are from 8am to 4pm. Food will be provided for CERT and professional responders.
A pre-event planning meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 13th, 2019, at the Cheverly American Legion Post 108. (3608 Legion Drive, Cheverly, MD  20785)
